An English football club with over a century of history is set to disappear. The news has left a community in shock.
However, the situation has been building behind the scenes. The club have been fighting to survive in recent months.Meanwhile, the issue centres around their home ground. A change in ownership has created a major problem.
The club were not offered a new lease to remain at their historic Old Road stadium. That decision has proved decisive.
At the same time, efforts were made to find a solution. VCD Athletic Club officials attempted to enter discussions and secure a future. However, those attempts did not succeed.
As a result, the club have now confirmed the worst outcome. In an official statement, chairman Gary Rump said:
“It is with profound sadness… that the club will cease operations.”
He added that the decision was not taken lightly. He also confirmed that all efforts to continue had failed.
Meanwhile, the club have been part of the local community since 1916. They have played a key role in non-league football for decades.
Rump described the club as “a cornerstone of local identity.” He also thanked supporters for their loyalty and dedication over the years.
The final date has now been set. Operations will end on May 17, 2026. At the same time, the club currently compete in the Isthmian League South East Division.
But their long journey is now coming to an end. And after 110 years, their chapter in English football is set to close.
